CLASSIC SIGN PAINTERS SCRIPT with Ross Hastie

A hands on workshop containing a practical study of classic sign painters scripts and using the brush to make the shapes, what makes them work and how to develop an individual style from this. You should know how to handle a lettering brush.

ROSS HASTIE is a Scottish signwriter who loves funky tunes, juicy scripts and shiny gilds—not a fan of rigid styles or difficult clients. Learned from many, he now specialises in traditional signwriting, gilding, and custom work on vintage vehicles and motorcycles with a strong reputation for craftsmanship. He regularly paints at Walldogs Mural Festivals and brings the same energy and dedication to every piece he creates.

PINSTRIPING with Todd Hanson

How does he do that?! Learn to hold a pinstripe brush, making lines and patterns from this Pinstripe Legend. All levels welcome.

TODD HANSON is known for his bold pinstriping designs and impactful lettering. He wrote for SignCraft Magazine and received the Pinstripe Legends Lifetime Achievement Award in 2022. In 2025, he taught the pinstriping workshop at the 50th Letterheads in Cincinnati at the American Sign Museum. Todd has been associated with Andrew Mack and Son Brush Company by having a signature series of pinstriping and lettering brushes, which he might bring to Amsterdam.

FAUX FINISHES with Jan Berghuis

Knowing how an actual wood grain looks like and what it takes to make a good marble is what will be taught here. This master decorator will take you along the process. All levels welcome.

JASPER ANDRIES is a self-taught pictorial artist. After working for many years as an illustrator in advertising, he began to long for work that felt more personal and rewarding. Together with his colleagues, he founded Amsterdam Signpainters, where he explored the painting styles within the craft that appealed to him most. With a preference for a more vintage approach, he has always been drawn to the classical oil paintings of the past two centuries and sought to combine these influences with his work as a sign painter.

LAYOUT with Jeff Marshall

Jeff will be sharing his thoughts on the basic fundamentals of sign design, fun layout and also delving into how he goes about adding character to script lettering. This is a hands-on workshop, bring your sign kit... ! All levels welcome.

Born in New Zealand, JEFF MARSHALL started his 5 year signwriting apprenticeship at the age of 16. In 1991 he opened Marshall Sign Co on Ardmore airfield operating out of a hangar. He has signwritten in India where he traveled for a period of time then moved up to Alaska where he resided for 2 yrs. These countries were very inspirational to him creatively, helping to fuel his passion for design. He now operates from the Gold Coast Australia.

40 YEARS SIGN PAINTER EXPERIENCE with Pierre Tardif

This workshop will cover pretty much everything about running a sign shop, from sweeping the floor, basic sketch, layout, the famous 3 basic lettering styles, brush strokes, colour contrast, tips and tricks of trade, sales, advertising, etc... PIERRE TARDIF is a traditional sign painter (lettreur) from Québec, Canada, who has preserved hand-painted lettering in the digital age since opening his studio in 1988. Inspired by stock-car racing graphics, he creates signage for storefronts, vehicles, wooden panels, walls, and heritage objects using brushwork instead of modern vinyl techniques. He is also known for his restoration work, teaching workshops internationally, and contributing to historic projects such as gold-leaf decoration on an 1876 Silsby fire engine.

JÉRÉMY GOFFART, also known as Miles Signs, is a Belgian sign painter and gilder whose work is rooted in traditional craftsmanship and influenced by early passions for drawing, music, and graffiti. After discovering hand-painted lettering in the United States and later reverse glass gilding, he trained in Belgium and London, launching Miles Signs in 2016 and refining his skills through mentorships with renowned painters and gilders. Today, his work spans sign painting and traditional gilding across Europe, the UK, and the U.S., contributing to the contemporary revival of hand-painted lettering.

CREATIVE CASUAL with Tim Sake

Exploring variations of casual lettering. Playing with elements of the casual alphabet in a creative way to make it your own. You should know how to handle a lettering brush.

Based in Rotterdam, TIM SAKE started sign painting in 2014 and has since developed a style of lively scripts and casuals, always looking for snap and character. As Rotterdam Signpainters he has worked all over the Netherlands and beyond, working for hospitality and retail businesses as well as private clients on everything from shop fronts and murals to vehicles, chalkboards, gold leaf and house numbers and names.

BLOCK / LETTERING EFFECTS with Miranda Ensink

MIRANDA ENSINK is one of our own, with the steadiest hands on the Northern hemisphere. Learning block lettering from Ash Bishop and Mike Meyer, this knowledge has been put to use throughout the work of Amsterdam Signpainters. After graduating at KABK The Hague, she worked as a graphic designer. Missing the practical part of lettering, she formed the sign company with her buddies and has been working with gold leaf, paint, design and organization of mural social painting projects ever since.

TRUCK LETTERING with Todd Hanson

SURFACE GILDING with Jussi Alasalmi

You will be taught the basics of surface gilding and imitation metal leafs, from applying, burnishing and combination with outlining and shadows. All levels welcome.

JUSSI ALASALMI is a Finnish artist who began airbrushing in the early '90s and soon expanded into pinstriping, lettering, and gilding after training with Pekka Mannermaa. He developed a distinctive lowbrow and kustom kulture style, combining techniques such as pinstriping, lettering, gilding, 3D printing, cutting, and carving, while also running a sign shop producing commercial work. Now his focus is on traditional signwriting, personal artwork, and sharing his knowledge.

PETER LIEDBERG is a Swedish sign painter and lettering artist based in Tokyo. After studying graphic design in Australia and type design at Cooper Union in NY City, he developed a deep focus on calligraphy, letterforms, and the expressive qualities of the brush. Today, he creates custom lettering and logotypes for international clients while continuing the tradition of hand-painted signage for restaurants, shops, and cafés across Tokyo. KENJI NAKAYAMA is a visual artist and sign painter, born in Hokkaido, Japan. He moved to Boston in 2004 and studied sign painting in Boston, Massachusetts. He has since developed a thriving practice, lettering and painting signs for retailers, restaurants, and institutions across New England.

DISTRESSING & AGING with Marieke Verhoeven

Demonstrations and explanation of aging techniques to make a variety of aged surfaces to be used in your signwork. Of course you can age along with the given materials. All levels welcome.
